2017 was rejuvenating for DemocracyLab. Our team of volunteers grew steadily over the course of the year, and devoted more than 1,300 hours to research, design and development of our open source platform connecting stakeholders in the tech-for-good ecosystem.
Our research led us to refine the initial scope of our platform to focus exclusively on the connection between skilled volunteers and civic tech projects. Our first public release for onboarding projects is imminent. In the meantime, you can check out a prototype of our platform here. Our theory is that by connecting a critical mass of projects and volunteers we can spark the rapid evolution of new technologies for the public good, empowering active citizenship and bringing about positive change in adopting communities.
2018 will be a pivotal year for DemocracyLab. After our initial release this month, we will continue to add functionality for project leads and volunteers. We expect to release our minimum viable product in April, and conduct several proof-of-concept projects with partnering civic technology groups over the following months. Our public launch is planned for July 4th. Other priorities for the year include recruiting new talent to our board of directors and moving the organization towards financial sustainability.
We’d like to thank the many people who contributed their effort, insight and expertise over the past year. Pay us a visit to see what’s new, get involved, or make a donation to support our work. We’ll keep you updated on our progress. Happy New Year and best wishes for a dynamic 2018!
